Phantom of the Opera

When one thinks of October, as Laura and I did when choosing the Movie of the Month, one often thinks of costumes and masks. So what is one of our favorite costume movies? With a masquerade no less? Phantom of the Opera of course! We love the music, the costumes and the the atmosphere of this lush movie musical. (After seeing it on Broadway several years back, I actually prefer the movie - of course that probably had more to do with the gentleman seated directly in front of me who obviously was battling whatever street vendor delicacy he probably just consumed. I believe Laura loved the Broadway production she saw at the tender age of 18.)

Movie of the Month: The Wedding Singer

Being children of the 80's ourselves, The Wedding Singer was a no-brainer for our Celebrate Cinema theme. Laura and I both still laugh at Adam Sandler and think that Drew Barrymore is at her most charming. Catch up with Robbie and Julia and when you do, see if you notice her ever-present necklace. It's one of the first things that comes to mind when Laura and I think of this movie so this month's special is all about jewelry! New sparkles

Laura and I have always loved the little things - the details - that pull a whole ensemble together. (We know some of you have noticed because we have been past winners and are currently nominated for best accessories by the readers of Wisconsin Bride.) A Premiere Couture Video Presentation

I'm playing around with making videos for us and here's my first attempt. This photo shoot took place at the Memorial Union with Front Room lending their talents. Rejuvenation Spa graciously provided hair and make-up. The beautiful guitar music is by my nephew, David Flood.

Simply Put, Awe-Inspiring

The collection we received from Christina Garcia is incredible. Katey immediately wondered aloud how we would ever choose what to add to our permanent collection. Excellent question!! While it is always a challenge to narrow down our choices, this year is unique because we will hopefully have the input of many of you out there. I will post some pictures later today of the more than 140 pieces of truly heirloom quality jewelry, hair art and veils to entice you out into the cold!!

Update: I've added photos, but here's something I've learned: taking great jewelry pictures is really hard and, especially by me, yet to be achieved! So when the talents at Front Room just point their cameras and magic happens - it really is magic!
