Soul Surfer

If you've followed along our blog for a length of time you know that we LOVE movies! Just this past Sunday my sweet hubby Jay and I saw Soul Surfer. My first impression of Soul Surfer was that it while it was a little cheesy, "somewhere between cheddar and jalapeno jack" to quote the movie, it was still an exceptional and inspiring story. Bethany Hamilton's story is definitely worth sharing. I ended up liking it enough to go back yesterday with my eleven-year-old daughter, my sister and my mother. It was the perfect girls' day out and I liked the movie even more the second time around and couldn't remember what I thought was at all cheesy about it. Go see it - you'll love it!

(And it was just what we thought, Toni - Bethany did her own stunt surfing! But so did her best friend Alana Blanchard. I thought that was pretty awesome!)

The credit for this photo of Bethany surfing in Indonesia in 2009 is given to Noah Hamilton, Bethany's older brother who is clearly gifted as well. What an incredible family!

November: Football + Thanksgiving = The Blind Side

The leaves have fallen, there's a crisp chill in the air. Who can think of November without thinking about Thanksgiving and football? Laura and I have had the hardest time in the past coming up with a movie that we love that celebrates Thanksgiving, one of our favorite holidays, but fortunately with The Blind Side, our problem is solved! If you've seen this movie I'm sure that you also found this story of family, love and generosity truly inspiring.

Our gift to you this month with a dress purchase is a beautiful scarf that will help keep you warm whether you are at the big game or on your way over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house for Thanksgiving dinner.

White Collar, Hot Hats and Cool Ties

So we're exposing our girly fickle side. Our Movie of the Month in October is a tv show. But we're sure you won't care when you get to choose a fantastic hat ala White Collar as a gift with every dress purchase -or when you get to give your fiance a fabulous tie (in addition to your fabulous hat) when you purchase a bridal gown this month.

Already a White Collar fan? Tell us who your favorite character is.

Letters to Juliet, a movie about first love getting a second chance, is our September Movie of the Month. Knowing that the written word is powerful and plays a significant role in this sweet movie, we pay homage to it by making it a necessary part of our special. In order to receive this month's special, you must text the word DRESSES to 39649.

**Please note: If you receive a message referring to Party Dresses, that is NOT our movie of the month offer. Just try again later for the correct message.

Time flies - It's August already?!

This month's movie is a favorite of mine. Before Meg Ryan had any unfortunate plastic surgery, Hugh Jackman became Wolverine or Liev Shreiber became his toothy brother, they made this charming little romantic comedy Kate and Leopold. It was during this film that I learned that Hugh Jackman was an accomplished singer. And because of this movie I'll never look at an elevator or margarine the same way again. It also gives you a glimpse at the zenith of corst gowns as fashion. This movie was released in 2001, when we were still up to our elbows in corset bridal gowns and this movie captures the look - though not in a bridal gown - beautifully.

When you purchase a dress or gown at Premiere Couture during the month of August you'll receive this very charming time-inspired necklace and earring set. Like the movie, it's just enough whimsy to make time pass a little more sweetly.

Bride and Prejudice

July's Movie of the Month marks one of my favorite movie going experiences ever, Bride and Prejudice. I am a total Jane Austen fan and find her themes used and re-used in movies all the time, but this has to be the most fun adaptation. Paying homage to Bollywood, this bright, energetic and very colorful movie is truly fun, if a bit cheesy.

And speaking of color, we've decided to honor this month's movie with a beautiful necklace and earring set made of polished stones in amazingly stunning and vibrant colors as our gift with every dress purchase.

This is one of three beautiful sets from which you may choose!

Surf's Up!

This month has already proved to be a roller coaster of weather but summer is definitely here! Our Movie of the Month is Surf's Up, which I believe is one of the most clever premises for a kid's movie ever. The animation is amazing and will make you want to throw your swimsuit on and head to the nearest beach!

We have new party dresses arriving - in our famously small quantities assuring you won't look like everyone else - about every week. An with the purchase of any dress this month, you will receive a beautiful pareo which is a lightweight and eye-catching wrap that you can wear as a sarong, swimsuit cover-up or as a shawl. If you purchase a wedding gown you'll receive a bonus gift certificate!

We can't wait to see you this summer!!

And I just realized that this movie was released on theday my son Luke was born - no wonder I love it!

Movie of the Month Dilemma:

So we're feeling all summery and want a movie for June that is either summer themed, beach-themed or that has good beach scenes in it but we can't decide which one! Help us out! Here are a few we've thought of but feel free to suggest your own:
50 First Dates
Some Like It Hot
Surf's Up
Bride and Prejudice (totally fun Bollywood movie)
Gilligan's Island (we know it's not a movie, but it would be totally fun!)
Nim's Island

Can't wait to hear your ideas!

Picnik umbrellas

I stopped by the store on Friday (I'm still on maternity leave) and was taken with how neat our beautiful umbrellas look in their holder (remember you get one as a gift when you purchase a dress during Singin' in the Rain month) so I had Meghan email a photo of them to me. Not having any real plan for the pic I decided to play with it at one of my favorite websites, Picnik. Have you ever used Picnik? It is totally fun and tinkering with an image, perhaps to blur out a busy background or pinpoint a burst of color, can be mildly cathartic.

April showers bring more than May flowers

Happy April! Isn't it beautiful today? The sun and warmth are such a welcome arrival that we thought that our April movie of the month should share that optimism. Singin' in the Rain is truly an all-time favorite musical with it's clever humor, amazing song and dance routines and just an overall sunny disposition. And what could be a better gift this month than a sunny and fun umbrella? With every dress purchase this month you'll receive a beautiful, full size silk umbrella that is so fun you'll actually want it to rain just to have the chance to use it!

Sleepless in Seattle

As many of you already know, February being being the month of Valentine's Day it is also Sleepless in Seattle month. How could we resist? It's time for some romance This iconic chick flick definitely stands the test of time - Tom Hanks is still funny and heart-rending and Meg Ryan is still charming. And as Laura mentioned on Facebook, it has an amazing soundtrack that made us fall in love with Harry Connick, Jr.

We had some fun with our gift with purchase this month as each of brides receive their own copies of An Affair to Remember and The Dirty Dozen. Don't know why this would be our gift? You definitely need to watch the movie again!

January is Julie & Julia and Journals

Laura and I are both fans of food and marriage (not necessarily in that order) so it seemed natural to feature Julie & Julia this month. And we've been having so much fun with free gifts-with-purchase that we decided to carry on with that theme and offer fantastic journals (we can't really give you a blog to write about your exploits!) with every dress purchased in January. With a bridal gown, you'll receive a truly special Recipes Cooking journal and a handy meal planner note pad for your fridge and with party and bridesmaid dresses, a smart, perfectly purse-sized Dining Out journal (because that's what so many of us actually do!).

December's Movie(s) of the Month: It's all about Christmas!

There was no way Laura and I were going to be able to narrow down our Christmas movie choices to just one so we decided to just make it about all of the Christmas movies that we love. Today, for instance, Laura played "A Christmas Story" and tomorrow it will probably by "Elf" or "It's a Wonderful Life" or "White Christmas" or who knows! We'd love to know what your favorite Christmas movies are, too.

This month's movie special is another fun gift with the purchase of any dress. In the spirit of giving, you will receive a gift certificate for one of Monroe Street's - and Madison's for that matter - best women's casual clothing stores- A Stone's Throw. Use it for yourself, or use it to ease your Christmas shopping a bit. If you choose to be generous, there's still something in it for you - a charming snowflake broach that is a perfect little bit of glitter to make the winter brighter!

New holiday dresses, Penelope scarves and a sizzling customer

So much to share and there will be more tomorrow! Today we received amazing new holiday and party dresses from Donna Ricco that are fantastically timeless and stylish - like the proverbial little black dress but in rich jewel tones instead!

Plus we have received our "Penelope" scarves in three different (click on the photos for a larger view) yet equally appealing and soft fabrics that have already been a great success. We didn't really intend for them to accent our dresses but as I was trying to figure out how to best show them to you, I was struck by how great so many of them looked with a cocktail dress. Who knew?!

We received an awesome thank you note along with fabulous photos of one of our recent customers that decided against the little black dress in favor of a hot little red dress instead and she wasn't sorry! Photographed with Miss Wisconsin, I'm sure you'll agree that Mallory certainly holds her own. Her date certainly thought so. When she took off her coat his first word was "Wow!" No kidding.

Penelope - November's Movie of the Month

You may think that "Penelope" is a rather unusual choice for our Movie of the Month as it doesn't really have much to do with Thanksgiving - possibly Laura and my favorite holiday - but it is more fitting than you may think. When the little known movie, starring Christina Ricci, James McAvoy and Reese Witherspoon, was playing here in Madison Janet Nelson Kumar, this weekend's guest designer, happened to visiting us. She had time to kill before her plane left for New York that Sunday so Laura, along with her daughter Anna, took Janet to see "Penelope". Besides that bit of trivia that makes it the perfect movie for Janet's trunk show, it also feels like the right time of year for this beautifully stylized modern day fairy tale of true love and self acceptance. Chances are you haven't seen this little movie - it only grossed around 11 million in the US - but both Laura and I think you should. We think that you'll love the characters, atmosphere and fantastic costume design. And if you want, you can watch it right in our shop as it will be playing all month long! Check out the trailer here.

Penelope begins her journey of self acceptance declaring her independence with the help of an absolutely fantastic scarf - first to hide behind then to emerge from behind. In honor of her voyage, we are offering a beautiful(and free!)scarf with the purchase of any dress all month long. So keep warm and stay true to yourself!
